Can DVD players Access VCD features?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

We all know how VCD's can have slide shows, menus, indexes within tracks, still shots, and audio clips and you can access them with a VCD player but can a home DVD player (or computer dvd player) access these features? Or are all these features only accessible on dedicated VCD players?

I am looking for a VCD/DVD software player that can access these feautres, but use the decoding engine of a hollywood plus decoder card.

Well, I want a player that can do MP3, MP2, Video CD, LaserDisc, VHS, NTSC, PAL, DVD, CDV, DVCD, SVCD, and MovieCD all in one neat unit. I just insert the discs into the player and my TV displays it. Like your request...that ain't gonna happen.

I believe the APEX 600A does both DVD and VCD. I have an APEX 600A, but I have never tried(or seen) a VCD. If you want the info do a google on the APEX 600A. That's the DVD player with the secret menu which defeats Macrovision, and Region constraints. But again, I've never done it. That's about all I know. I am a 54 yr old non-techie.
