Hasn't everyting been said that could be said about y2K?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Has y2k been talked out? Maybe that is why so many folks here think the board has gone down hill, nothing else left to say that hasn't been said already. Most of us have decided to prepare/not prepare and are now in the waiting stage to see who is right and who is wrong.

Nope,

I'm still waiting to glean some itty bitty tidbit of useful information from y2k pro or kentucky, ya never know, stranger things have happened...

Naa, it is late in the game, but it's just now getting dark, and the fireworks guy just drove up. The show is just about to begin. and it is sure to be one grand finalie... <:)=

"Talked out" yes, only to the DGIs and DWGIs. There are still a zillion GIs out there that need help in their preperations and I will stop talking about that...well never...

I'm with Sysman. If I'm just going to "wait and see"...now that I'm done preparing, I have NO intention of letting idiot savants take over this forum, with any misguided information, at a time when newbies will begin pouring in to find the *facts*. It's not like I didn't have to wade through alot of "crap" and exchange. It's always been there, it's just more concentrated now. They'll just have to choose sides like I did, last year. It may not be as eloquent and fluffy as it once was, but neither is the problem. It's rather hard to be fluffy with 4 million gallons of raw sewege in your back yard, ya know?

I'm gonna go with *yeah baby*!

At least it can feel that way if you've been aware for a while. And have your preps handled. The back and forth between the extremes gets old 'cause there ain't much to say that hasn't been said.

For now anyway...

Well Unc, that's only because I've kept my mouth shut for way too long now. It feels WONDERFUL. The rest of you lurkers should try it. Bwa--ha---ha.

'Y2K' has become a symbol of the millenium, and to future students of semiotics, it will act as talisman and linchpin to the study of millenialism, late 1990s style. An exhausted idiom? How could such an idiom, freighted with the most alarming possibilities, and packed with an ever-evolving dynamism as the calender maintains its diffident march toward THAT DATE. I am no advocate of an alarmist syncretism that allies apocalyptic cynicism with technological hobgoblins, but no one can argue that the subject isn't compelling grist for conversational mills. And regarding the growing sense of uncertainty, and outr (...) and mendacity, Y2K remains among the years top stories. An amazing coda to a mad century.

That SHOULD have read: "how can such an idiom...blahblah...LOSE ITS PUNCH?" Woe is me; no screen editor, can even make paragraphs. For those enlightened ones out there with REAL computers, imagine, if you will, the plight of We who Cannot make Paragraphs: imagine, and shudder. I thank thee.

There's still the matter of if and how the financial markets and governments will react before January.
