Pentax 645n end-of-roll film advance problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Has anyone else had a problem with the 645n not winding the film far enough at the end of a roll of 220 film to ensure the exposed film is covered by the film leader?

Mine seems to "stick" (doesn't wind far enough to cover the film with the leader) on about 1 of every 5 rolls. This usually means I'll lose 3 or 4 frames at the end of the roll when I remove the insert.

Any similar problems out there?

Thanks, Keith

Keith - are you certain that on EVERY new roll you load, you are winding on to the correct mark on the film leader? It is easy to forget to do this when hurriedly changing films, and it can affect what happens when you get to the other end of the roll.

I am a brand new owner of a 645 I bought used. Ihad that problem at the end of the first roll of 120. The motor whirred and then didn't advance. I think I missed the arrow when I loaded it too, though.

I changed batteries and it doesn't do that anymore, but it doesn't wind on automatically. This forces me to press the shutter release three more times and it rolls up completely.

Can you tell me if I am correct that it should roll continuously after 15 or 16 exposures? Or is this what one is supposed to do?
