Alltrista Corporation Elects Douglas W. Huemme to Board of Directors, Says Shipments of One-Cent Blanks To U.S. Mint Will Grow for Remainder of the Mint's Year

INDIANAPOLIS, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Shareholders of Alltrista Corporation (NYSE: ALC) have elected Douglas W. Huemme to the corporation's board of directors. Mr. Huemme is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Lilly Industries, Inc. He also serves as a director of First Indiana Corporation and The Somerset Group, Inc. In addition, shareholders reelected as directors William A. Foley, chairman, president and chief executive officer of LESCO, Inc.; William L. Peterson, retired chairman of Alltrista; and Patrick W. Rooney, chairman and chief executive officer of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. The company today also said it had been notified that shipments of one- cent coin blanks to the U.S. Mint would be increased for the remainder of the mint's fiscal year, which ends September 30. No definite amount was mentioned, but Alltrista has been shipping at the rate of 24 truckloads a week since the beginning the company's second quarter. First quarter shipments, according to Thomas B. Clark, president and chief executive officer, had been at the 30 truckloads a week level. "It is our understanding that the Mint, due to accelerating demand, is increasing production of all circulating coinage," Mr. Clark said. "We have already begun producing greater volumes at our Greeneville, Tennessee facility and will have no difficulty in filling our customer's needs for the copper- plated zinc one-cent blanks." Alltrista manufactures plastic and metal products. The company had 1998 sales, including a 1999-acquired business, of $358 million and employs approximately 2,000 people at 16 locations.

I hesitate to point out that, since 24 is less than 30, perhaps they are returning to Q1 levels??

Chuck: I thought this was the relevant sentence:
