Canned bacon/pork?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have looked through the archives, but can't find the thread on canned bacon. We recently had a hog processed, cut, wrapped and frozen - but I do want to can as much of it as possible/feasible so as to cut down to one freezer by late in the year. Anyone here really try the canned bacon? Taste OK?

Jeanne Check out www.mrssurvival.com on the canning forum. There are directions on canning bacon and lots of other things. This site is one of the better sites and there is a lot of information there for men and women. Good Luck

Jeanne; a couple of months ago we went on a shopping trip to Utah and found canned bacon in a store there. Not having eaten it before we decided to pick up one can and try it before stocking up. You're probably not going to believe this but it was some of the best bacon I've ever eaten. We're used to really good bacon because we usually cut at least 2 hogs a year...the canned stuff was pretty thinly sliced but just as good as what we get from our meat processor. Our only regret was that we just got one can, now we have to go back to Utah and get some more since we've never seen it at home.

Years ago, I purchased canned bacon from Thrifty drug stores in Southern California. Can't find any here on Kauai.
