Day Flower

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

This Day Flower, Commelina erecta, Spiderwort Family, was taken with an F90x, Nikon 200micro, probably f8, Kodak E100VS. I cropped this a bit. I have tighter shots of the flower, but I felt the leaves added some interest to this view.

The background is a little too distracting for me. Also, the highlight on the flower petals is a little distracting. It looks like you did the best you could, though, in this light. I might prefer one of the more tightly cropped shots. I do like the subject quite a bit! I'm always fascinated by small flowers. Good choice!

Nice photo, a little over-exposed but its ok.

Donna, nice shot. I too find that 'hot spot' distracting. Maybe a shot from 20 degrees to your right or 45 degrees to your left to eliminate it. Or maybe its just my desire to see more of those yellow centers.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I see the horizontal streak in the background and it should be a cleaner background, though the artisit in me kinda likes the brush stroke look. The hotspot on the flower is less obvious in the original, sometimes I work too hard at trying to make my scans look like the original and change something else. In this case in trying to make the flower purplish blue, like the original slide, I had to tone down some colors which enhanced the reflections. But the shimmer in the petals is in the original. Maybe I'll post a tighter, less exposed shot next week. Thanks again for your input! Donna

Think I like it better without the leaves. I just love blue and yellow together!
