I would like a critique of this image from a technical standpoint, specifically, does the lack of selective focus detract from the image?

This is a fine example of a scene that probably looks really interesting in three dimensions but looks rather disorganized when compressed into two dimensions. So yes I think the lack of selective focus detracts. I think that the composition is more to blame, however. Because the tonalities and textures are so similar the branch blends into the background making it difficult to see where one begins and the other stops. My mind keeps trying to seperate the branch out so I can take in the lovely veiw of the landscape. Perhaps it would work better in color with good light on the branch.
