Accelerated Time Frame & Virtual Relativity

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Is it just me, or do we seem to be living in a vastly accelerated time frame? Doesn't 1997 seem like a REALLY long time ago? Even events of two months ago seem distant. Why is this? Have old concepts of time been subsumed by computer-driven reality? Is the millenium an asymptote that we will approach in an ever-accelerating, increasingly baffling manner? And whatever happened to all the time that all our time-saving gadgets saved? Was it simply misplaced? What is our ultimate destiny as humans, when technology and media cause things to move faster and faster? Will people someday live in colossal SUVs that contain all our hopes and desires, drifting endlessly across an asphalt landscape, interacting with other SUVs only by e-love? Have the machines already won, and we just haven't awoken to fact? When was the last time a freakin' computer layed back in the clover and watched the clouds drift o'erhead? (Spidey, who is damned sick of cathode ray tubes)

There's no doubt that most of us have lost our perspective. We've forgotten why we're here (here as in "alive"). I can't help but think that a slap upside our technological heads will do us a great deal of good. But it's not just technology...we will always find an excuse to turn away from our true selves. Sorry, didn't mean to get philosophical. Gonna go buy more beans.

Hey, it's 75 degrees here in the Catskills and I'm off to play 18 holes, walking too. See ya gear heads later ...

You are just getting older.

As far as the rest goes, may I make a suggestion, go to a beautiful natural spot and hang out and breath deep. Going to go swimming at the potholes myself today, in a rainforest that is about a mile away. I will let you know of the affects.

Time passing perception is the function of, both, the number of things and their relative importance, to which we pay focused attention. It is all up to you. as usual.

Oh, Brian, wish I could be swimming in those potholes this afternoon. But,,,, I did it yesterday.

I'm finding that tending the goats works well too. Cool beings, they are!

Well the water was pretty cool but very relaxing. Highly recommended.
