If my brother knew something was happening that would bring tragedy to my family and he did not give me any warning or indiated that he knew but couldn't tell, Well he just might find himself knocked in the head with whatever was handy at the time.

I am glad you did post this information. If noone posted what they heard or thought, we wouldn't have a clue.

is he saying that the USAF willnot be able to operate or did he imply further reaching implications, surely you can live without the noise of F16s or what have you for a while....

Last August I spoke with a friend who claimed he spoke with one of the y2k supervisors at NORAD in Cheyenned Mt. just outside of Colo. Springs. My friend told me very little of what this person said, but he did divulge that NORAD cannot and will not be fixed anywhere close to the rollover. He claimed that the repair of systems would take "years" beyond 2000, but wasn't really clear on what that actually meant.

From my understanding, the Y2k coordinator in NORAD was upset that Clinton had not declared some kind of emergency to release rescources and urgency for the task at hand. The comment went something to the effect that we should be treating y2k as a "War Effort" similar to WW2. That was the only real hope to speed the repair.

Now, from the rumor that started this thread, the rumor from my friend as well as Senator Bennett's comments (covered by CORY) in the last conference on Y2k saying the DOD will be dealing with y2k for "years," I get the feeling that the objective reality of y2k is disconnected with the subjective spin the Feds are giving out, at least concerning DOD. And the ultimate question, of course, is how many other agencies, industries, and companies are like the DOD. This is the difference between a y2k "2" and "7+".

We won't know until it gets here. The sad fact is that if the Pollys are wrong and there was a great propoganda over the last 3 years... well its hard to imagine how the backlash will be, especially if we as communities, end up in mortal danger or hungry. Three years ago, in my mind, a y2k worst case scenario is exactly how things have played out, great economy and all. No one cares, no one prepares, and we all go together if we go.

Just my humble opinion.

I'm not sure there's a big mystery here. If my memory serves me right, Congressman Horn's last report showed the DOD would be compliant in the year 2020. All the resources in the world couldn't move that timetable up twenty years.

So, in other words, the officer was simply confirming what is not a widely publicized fact that is already on the record.

Yeah, But what does this mean? Maybe, there won't be any more quick wars started; maybe it means TEOTWAWKI. I'm not taking any chances any more. I love the rural/agrarian life and am tired of the city, so we're moving for y2k. Why not?
