Polly want a cracker...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Somebody once made a great statement on here saying Polly want a cracker (sorry Ive forgotten your name, still smile every time I think of it!) I think you folks are missing a very important message here. This should not be about y2k only, the main message here should be to, think about and try to prepare for possible hardships/disasters in the future.

Your son comes home from his Boy Scout meeting and says mom/dad, our motto is Be Prepared. You, the kind of person, that tells him what a fool he is for thinking that?

Somebody commented on Y2K Pros?!!! post this morning saying they were now convinced they would stay in the city and not worry about y2k. Hello! Is y2k the only potential problem in your life? Ever given any thought to the possibility that you may want to bug out to another location or have some reserves on hand for future emergencies?

If a problem hits you or your family sometime in the future, are you going to rely on the Government to bail you out? Thats a great idea because so far, for the most part, the government has been great to its citizens during disasters. Sort of like the ultimate insurance company (the one with really deep pockets). Please remember, insurance companies, or parts of them can have serious problems or fail completely. Ever read a history book?

If you have read a history book, you probably noticed that those who were prepared, were generally not the first casualties. Think about that other great line what if 911 were not just a phone call away? Even for just a short time this could be catastrophic for you and your family. It has happened, and certainly could happen again, on any scale: Local, regional, national or worldwide.

So Polly still want that cracker?

This should not be about y2k only, the main message here should be to, think about and try to prepare for possible hardships/disasters in the future. Wow, how profound! I would have never thought of this. You think life is great for me because you have labeled me a polly? Ive suffered through many hardships and disasters. Im a polly because Ive survived these life altering events. Ive even planned for my family in the event that I die.

If a problem hits you or your family sometime in the future, are you going to rely on the Government to bail you out? No, I have never relied on the Government to do anything for me; I dont expect hand outs.

If you have read a history book, you probably noticed that those who were prepared, were generally not the first casualties. Please be specific.

Think about that other great line what if 911 were not just a phone call away? Im prepared to rush my family member to the hospital myself. Even though Im not a surgeon, I can perform CPR and apply first aid in most kinds of emergencies.

So Polly still want that cracker? My greatest asset is my reaction reflexes. Unlike the doomers who just repeat what Yourgod spouts, I can think for myself. By the way, the issue with most pollys is not your preparation level but your ability to see things that arent there.

Now a question for you: If we have a ten year depression, have you prepared for that? Do you expect the Government to bail you out when your supplies are gone (oh helpless one)?

That post about "oh, thank, y2kpro...you just saved me!" was so obviously a made-up bunch of doomer bullshit (to incite all other cultists of doom to dog-pile on the pollies) that it is incredible you fell for it!

of course given the mental energy output of the average doomer (which wouldn't power a piss-ants electric go-cart around the inside of a cheeri-o once) I can understand that.

Kiss my @ss , y2kfreaks!

[hey new forum censors, do you track just the people who post, or everyone who logs in to this quicksand marsh?]

Gee we agree on a lot of stuff but you lost me when you said,

Unlike the doomers who just repeat what Yourgod spouts, I can think for myself. How is it that your such a smart guy thinking that youre the only one that thinks? Should we all hope that one day we can be as smart as you?

If we have a ten year depression, have you prepared for that? Why I guess so since I have been preparing to be as self sufficient as possible no matter how long term and have been all my life. Sorry in advance if you own a copyright on my last lineyou knowyou being so much smarter I figure you must have already said that before I did.

Super Polly

Quicksand marsh? There usually filled up with guys like you thats why the rest of us never have a problem with them. History shows that pollys get eaten and the Super Pollys get eaten first. Makes a great balance in time of crisisyou know more to go around for the rest of us

You're right BiGG, I did make some assumptions about you. But I'm as guilty as you for generalizing. Not every fits the same size.

Again, here we go.

The GI's think that because they have been programmers that they realize a date problem can make a computer crash. No shit, Sherlocks. We ALL know that. Everyone here knows it's a problem.

But GI's sit there and ramble on about how Polly's are eaten by history blah blah blah. Sometimes we're misinformed, sometimes we know too much, and sometimes we're just plain stupid. (I've gotten all that in the SAME thread, thanks).

Then GI's talk about how Pollys don't want people to prepare. That's the biggest load of horse shit. Start asking Pollys and you'll see that most of us are preparing, but in different ways.

So then we're left with ominous threats, the cetainty of death and destruction (we don't even consider that it MIGHT NOT happen anymore).

Jeez. Same old shit, different postings.

Give you guys some good Y2k news, and you shred it. Talk about how the rest of the world will bring the US to its knees because they aren't as prepared as we are, but then there is a thread out there about how sexperts say the US is lagging.

Jeez. Same old shit, different postings.

The record is skipping, somebody bump the needle.

JAW

You said, Then GI's talk about how Pollys don't want people to prepare. That's the biggest load of horse shit. Start asking Pollys and you'll see that most of us are preparing, but in different ways.

Most pollys are preparing for y2k in what different ways?

Give you guys some good Y2k news, and you shred it. Wow another classic! Ever think that maybe the GIs are looking for more than a bunch of candy coated news articles we have been constantly feed?

I may have been wrong when I grouped Pollys in with the DGIs and DWGIs and sorry for the mistake if I did, but what is the difference between pollys and the other two?

Jeez. Same old shit, different postings. you typed this twice! must really bother you! think maybe people on here get tired of pollys doing the same thing? Again, explain the difference please
