I like sardines, thus giving me more enjoyment when all the good stuff is consumed by others and nothing left but 'sardines'.

For a great taste treat, store up some smoked oysters or mussels. Very yummy!

What's the shelf-life of sardines? How about tuna?

-- MidwestMike_ (midwestmike_@hotmail.com), June 10, 1999.

Sardines in oil last the longest, avoid water, they become seperated over time.

Shelf life of tuna is 5 years.

al-d,

You ever hear that old saying, "they broke the mold after he was made?" Does that fit, as in unique? How did you find this forum, anyway, and why do you like it so much?

Hey, I don't knock sardines. I've stored enough for a year or more. First, sardines are rich in nucleic acids. They are rich in oil and minerals that help lower cholestrol. Second sardines live in the deeper part of the ocean where there is less pollution. They contain the healthy omega 3 fat. Best of all they help those who suffer from arthiritis. They have helped me. As far as storage, the shelf life of the cans I stocked are now expiring in 2003 and 2004. And I can pour off the oil and feed it to the cats and dogs. By all means stock sardines. They are one of the few fish that increase in minerals when canned.

al-d, they are one of the world's great enegy boosters. You were actually doing yourself a favor eating sardines during that busted period. I eat sardines and crackers at least once a week and sometimes twice.

Gilda, I have not been able to locate sardines with an expiration date. What brand are you stocking,

Thank, Ray

Sardines! Wonderfully tasty little canned fishies. No need to heat. Easy to transport. Keep well several years in oil. Mustard variation very tangy.

Don't buy squooshy, poorly packed cans with abnormal bulges.

I'm gonna net the next sale display I see. Sardines!

-- Randolph (dinosaur@williams-net.com), June 11, 1999.

Ray, the sardines I buy that are dated are Beach Cliff Sardines. But I also buy Portside brand, which is cheaper, and just as good. Portside doesn't have a posted date, but when I called them, they said none would expire in less than three years. This is sardines in soybean oil, and I assume the others would expire at a similar time. I read somewhere that canned fish keeps longer than almost anything else.
