Long-legged fly

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

These tiny flies (family Dolichopodidae) are common, but don't sit still for long. Sigma 180 f5.6 macro w/ Nikon 4T diopter (1:1), SB-28 off camera, exposure details unrecorded, Astia.

Peter, this is a great image. I love the texture on the leaf surface, and I'm glad that it's softer than the fly (which is super sharp). The soft leaf parts make the fly really jump out at the viewer and pop off the screen. The colors are beautiful and the imperfections on the leaf are great. Also, I like the way that the veins of the leaf curve through the photo. Congrats!

Like Joe Said, all the elements work in this image. I think the lighting brought it together.

Excellent work! That super sharp fly on a nice green velvet leaf, complete with great veins and colourful imperfections for added value.
