okay - for the sake of argument, let's just say that all this will be minor bumps in the road. I, for one, would like a factual catalog of those bumps. Federal comments about bumps won't do us any good. A state saying they expect bumps is a start - narrows down the search pattern somewhat. County, City, Township - now that is where the rubber meets the road.

once again - for the sake of compiling this "map" - please provide the following information - with supporting news blips etc

Location (as narrow as you can get - state, county, town) type of bump (elec, water, supply line, etc) credit (who is making the claim...)

see, if we catalog all the bumps - maybe we can build a more informed picture - to share with our dis-believing neighbors.

My neighborhood is okay so far. Still going to give the elec company the benefit of the doubt until after their big test in the next week or so - will let you know if they make the bump map!

Hello justme,

I think you have a great idea or, rather, it would be great except for the fact that you cannot rely on getting the truth. Vendors, governments at all levels and utilities have all been spiking the punch when it comes to y2k compliance. Now I'm not saying they ALL have but enough to flaw your "maps". I imagine they would still be useful as long as one kept in mind these facts. Just MHO.

Mike - you are correct - I am not debating the truth of fixes or glad stories. I am looking for "admitted bumps" this article has a couple of good examples.

Gov. Jeb Bush's "Y2K Czar," Scott McPherson, told the governor and Cabinet on Tuesday that there are still a few local governments that haven't cooperated with the state's effort to make sure all cities and counties have their computers ready for the new year but that most have been audited.

please note - I don't want a debate on how much he is fabricating - I want to focus on which of the "few local governments" he is referring to:

The task force reported 15 county school districts that are not yet fully complaint with Y2K readiness rules. The Gadsden County School Board's finance and human resources computers were on the list.

this is a bump - don't even want to get into a debate on what the implications of the bump are. It is an admission by someone - a specific - bam, plot it on the map.

by a systematic plotting of the map - we should have a pattern emerging - the more bumps an area has - the greater need for concern etc etc etc.

this counts as a payroll bump for Tennessee, Gadson County.

just an idea to tame the wild beast.
