Enough already!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Do we really have to start with this religious crap again? Unless one of you is Jesus/God/Holy Spirit/Allah/Budda/Sun God/Water God... himself please keep your interpretations to yourself, or take them someplace where they are appreciated. Also please post a reply if you agree with me as I'm sure the other side certainly will!

In the spirit of comeradarie (sp?) I'll entertain my own thoughts... Enough God stuff already! Unless your ten years old I don't you need anyone to tell you how to practice your religion. I don't think anyone here is ten years old (AL-D excluded).

I thought (hoped) we came to a friendly understanding back in January that, although religious perspectives could be brought up within a thread, this was not a religious forum and should not be the main intent of a thread. There are other forums to go to for that perspective. (Maybe someone could post them here.)

This board's kinda gone downhill lately anyway... so what.

As for the religious discussions: Just hit the "alt" + left arrow key as soon as you see the word "God" & you'll be a happier person, at least until judgment day. After that... well, you know.

Maybe by accident we've hit upon an area where moderators "yanking" postings out because of their likelihood to cause, if not offence, then at least conflict.

And I dont mean that as an affront against anyones personal freedoms, (ehem), simply that as pointed out, this is NOT a religious forum, the subject is NOT specific to Y2K (wait for the flames), and nobody needs instruction on what to believe.

Just a thought.

oops . . .

kindly insert "should be" between "moderators" and "yanking"

Tankee muchly

I would be okay with a "fruitcake" style compromise, if necessary. Those threads have been entirely OT, but the well-disciplined conduct of the fruitcake participants (is it really only a total of 3 threads since December?) make them easy to bypass and pretty tolerable compared to all the other OT postings since then. I certainly come here, in part, for the spiritual companionship, but I don't want to see this forum's value compromised with the endless and nondirected religious threads that Al-D has decided that we need.

Religious threads, whether Christian, New Age, Buddhist, Jewish, etc., are logically out of bounds for this forum. Postings about faith within a thread are up to the individual who posts them, IMO. Sometimes they can be quite relevant.

This is a very sensitive area for thread deletions unless the criteria are posted plainly and applied by the sysop with a very even hand (ie, New Age type threads are not sometimes perceived as "religious" by New Age folks).

Pastor Chris' forum is the right place for religious threads.

I wonder what will you say when a big 18 wheeler cut in front of your car with your family in it. I bet it ain't " Oh shoot I wish that trucker would not had done that. I think if you have any sense you will call on the name of God for comfort and strength. And in these days and times we need GOD!!!!! No flames from truckers my dad happens to be one. It was just an example to make folks think.

We have enough Y2K proselytes on this Forum without adding religious ones too!I feel that if somebody needs spiritual help in their preps, then they should go visit other more dedicated forums.

Pastor Chris' Forum is fine if you're a 'God is going to torture all the non-believers for ever and ever' misguided person. However, if you hold a higher picture of God, that's not the place for you.

Craig -

Not sure why you felt the need to take a swing at Pastor Chris' forum, but...

Your link to "Tentmaker" didn't work too well. Let's see if this one works: Tentmaker Ministries

It's a shame that individuals have to prostylize and try to force everyone to 'be like them'. The pollys try their best to change our mind, the religous right insists that those that do not adhere strictly to that particular line of thought will be damned for eternity, certain posters try to inundate us with stories about conspiracies and I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS CRAP TO FIND INFORMATION I CAN USE AND THAT TENDS TO TICK ME OFF.

If the new powers that be wish to use their delete button, maybe they should enforce the mission statement. It's relatively specific. The other alternative is to email the 'problem children' and gently, ever so gently, whack them and tell them to quit, change their ways or don't come back. This forum is for y2k news, events and information regarding preparation. It is not for black helicopter stories, religous ranting, or political bickering. (Yes, I know Clinton is a waste but discussing it at length doesn't change anything).

I can even put up with the attitude exhibited toward Realists by the likes of Flint, Poole and Decker. They have a right to their opinions too....as long as their posts are within the bounds of the mission statement. When the posts become personal attacks (from either side), it wastes my time and that's something I don't have a lot of available lately. If the poster gets too far off track too often, maybe a email from the HMFWIC for that week would correct things. I have a real problem with seeing (and sifting through) 13 threads from al-d and finding NOT ONE useful snippet of info regarding y2k.

Al-d...I'll take care of my own soul, thank you!!

Agreed 100%. I don't know what happens when some people get religious, they lose all their sense of boundaries or something.

For all the good features of this forum software, it's too bad it doesn't have Forum Sections up front. Then the moderator instead of deleting any threads, could just *move* them to say "Religion" - "NWO" - "Sales" , "Misc. off-topic" or whatever. I've seen this work great on Compuserve forums. Arnie I think had a forum where this worked well.

Oh well..... then I suppose we'd have people bickering that *not all* parts of the thread were off topic. (With this thread, however, there would be no argument.) ;->

...er, that is to say... the threads that *gave rise* to this thread, are what's off topic.
