When PaineWebber Speaks

David Eddys 6/9/99 dissection of an investment firms happy piece (written in February, but just as true today).

Summary: Don't believe anything you read. Er, unless its written by David Eddy.

Sorry, Davey, your Y2K gravy train is about to end.

What's going to be interesting now is the Polly reaction to this Paine Webber piece. One of the most tiresome complaints issued by the Polly crowd is that the news source has "something to sell". You don't get any more involved in conflict of interest than Paine Webber. We're not talking about a few *books* or prep stuff here. Personally, I think that PW is as far off the reality track as Mitch Ratcliff is. Anybody buying into that forecasting might as well hand over a blank check and tell them to call you when the investment has doubled in value. Sure. Sure.
