Cold Storage of "Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries"?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I realize that normal alkaline batteries (and Krazy Glue) are better kept refigerated. Is there a good web site to find out what temp is best for "RENEWAL" rechargable alkaline battries?

Should they be removed from store packaging and "recharged" on a regular basis? I do not have a site which will give me the optimum discharge recharge cycle, HELP!

What is the best temp for storage? Root celler or near freezing. What is the effect of less than 32DF on these battries? Do they Ohzzz Chemicals like the D cells of my youth and eat up the flashlight?

Comments and Web sites solicited!!!!

Keep the faith

Why does this keep coming up? DON'T BOTHER!

Even the expensive "rechargeable" alkalines aren't very good: a few tens of recharges, max, with the amout of charge stored falling rapidly. Recharge of non-rechargeables is much worse.

FOr recharging, use Ni-Cd or NiMH. They'll recharge hundreds of times. Only weakness is that they "leak" to empty over a few months. (No problem normally: just charge again)

For emergency equipment and for low-drain equipment (or for general use if there's nothing to recharge from) use conventional alkaline cells, once. These hold charge for five or more years.
