TENTATIVE DATE AND LOCATION

The second Northern Virginia Y2K Get Together is tentatively planned for Saturday, June 19th, 1999 in Washington, Virginia from 4 pm until 8pm. This date and location is suggested in order that people can attend the 6 hour seminar by Carla Emery (author of the Encyclopedia of Country Living) at the nearby Rappahannock County Public Library. It is a long day with lots of time for us to get to know each other and exchange personal insight into the problems and the fixes of Y2K.

ACTIVITIES AND THINGS TO DO

If things work out, Carla will join us for the get together as will Sally Strackbein of www.y2kkitchen.com who may demonstrate some of the best of y2k grill cooking (if she can make it). Besides cooking and eating, we'll have a show and tell, crank up Baygen flashlights and shortwave radios, hear my TEOTWAKI music maker (an old wind up Thorens music box that plays little metal discs without electricity), etc.

ABOUT WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA

Also nearby to this location is the Inn at Little Washington (one of the most expensive and best restaurants in the whole country), Luray Caverns (within 20 miles), and the great Shenandoah National Park (famous for fall foilage). Washington, Virginia, an historic little town nestled in the scenic countryside, is about an hour Wast of Washington, D.C. Along the way, you'll find a variety of family fruit and vegetable stands as well as some that do the canning for you.

LODGING AND OTHER THINGS

While the bed and breakfasts may be booked up in Washington, Virginia, there are campgrounds and motels within 20 minutes. If this date and location work for most of us, I will get phone numbers of motels and campgrounds for those who may be from out of state (Chuck and Critt?). I will provide written and graphic maps by email to anyone who needs them. Besides the 5 star Inn at Little Washington, there are a couple of cafes that are affordable in Washington.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

Beyond the hoped for good dish or two by Sally, I was hoping that the locals (Virginians) would be gracious enough to provide dinner (or dinner makings) and beverages for those coming from out of state or who have an extra long drive. I am planning on bringing a canned corn casserole and some other nice things that are planned for my Y2K menu. Of course, I will be bringing some cigars along, but not sure what they will be. The Habanas are gone. Perhaps, new Romeo and Juliets.
