I'm sure the best (cheap) flash for EOS500n (as well as for 50 or 300) is not a Canon one. Consider Sigma's EF 430 Super - it has almost all the features of 550EX for the price of 380EX. Look at http://www.sigmaphoto.com/html/flashes.htm

All the features of the 550ex - except for high speed flash sync, E-TTL, full manual control (1 to 1/128 power) etc., etc. There's a reason (lots of reasons) it's cheaper. Get a used 430EZ if you want to save money.

Best and cheapest don't belong together in this context.

I'm sorry, Bob, but you are wrong. Look at http://www.sigmaphoto.com and check EF430 Super (not ST).

Sincerely, VB.

Hey man!!, Bob is right! ( at least when it comes to the canon flash part ) It's all about high-speed sinc (FP Flash) and Flash- Exposure-lock (FE Lock)!!!!!!!
