Maslow's Holistic Dynamic Needs Hierarchy

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

P = Physiological
S = Safely
L = Belongingness and Love
E = Esteem
SA = Self-Actualization

In the Navel War College thread Maslow was mentioned. If you had Psy 101 you probably remember, as I do, a pyrimid with SA at the top. I can certainly apply Maslow to the y2k problem.

P = food, water, oxygen, etc...anything the physical organism need to survive. Very fundamental life or death needs.
S = security, stability, protection....freedom from fear, anziety and chaos....need for structure, order, law and limits.
L = affection
E = both self and from others
SA = if you were meant to be a polly ostrich the fulfillment of that need.

Rb,

While I no longer believe that Maslow's heirarchy is a great help in understanding the human person, Maslow may help us to communicate the importance of making a stand in a fight for civilization-- if things get really bad. Without civilization, there is no guarantee that any of these needs will be answered for most of us. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading Maslow (all of his writings) and am fondly reminded of happy undergraduate days when I was once known as "Dante" to my professors.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna
