Farmer's Almanac Discovers Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My wife just came home today from a Wal-Mart trip with a new magazine. It's titled Y2K Disaster 2000, Millennium Survival Guide. It is published by Harris' Farmer's Almanac. So the public is getting a full monty approach to this now, right on the magazine rack at your local Wal-Mart store. This is a very good collection of information and suggestions, and is worthwhile to both GI's and DGI's. The whole magazine is devoted to the Y2K situation.

There's a whole collection - Get It; Don't Get It; Don't Wanna Get It...

Mike,

Let me expand on Brooks' reply.

A GI refers to someone who "gets it", the it being the perception that potential Y2K problems are sufficiently likely to be serious enough that preparation is prudent. There is, of course, a wide range of estimates of how likely and how serious, but someone who feels that preparation is not needed is considered a DGI, a don't (or doesn't) get it.

A DWGI refers to someone who does not want to get it, someone who, for example, does not want to know about serious potential problems.

Thanks, Gordon. I LOVE Farmer's Almanac.

Welcome, Mike. Are you a Chimney Doc, as your name seems to imply? If so, your input is encouraged on that subject.
