OT (?) Survivalists

Good Morning,

Well, it is 4:30 am and I awoke to the sound of peeping coming from my small egg incubator. A day or so ago I had rescued some eggs from hens which had given up on them (these were laid later than the rest). Now they are hatching. It never fails to amaze me when I watch birth of any kind. So vulnerable yet already fighting, struggling to breathe and find warmth.

I certainly don't wish to wax philosophical but it made me start thinking of all the flak people get for wanting to "survive". Ed's essay on the subject really struck a chord within me. Of course, we all want to survive - The Mormans have stored food, planned for worst case scenarios, etc. for years and few call them "wacko survivalist nuts".

These times are strange and often distressing to me but when I look at my son (almost 3 years old now) or watch baby chicks hatch out I am humbled by their strength, their spirited beauty and their desire to live. As adults it is our responsibility to take whatever measures necessary to protect this.

Aw, heck....I need a cup of coffee....too much thinking....too early in the morning!

Have a great day!

Nice post, Kristi. Hope nobody muddies it with, yes, but-- and what if-- extrapolations. Let's not complicate something for once, just leave it as is, simple (NOT simplistic!) and untainted.

what is wrong about wanting to survive?except that discussing the possibility of NEEDING those skills offends those who(religiously) believe that technology can never create a problem that technology cannot fix.sheesh.

To awaken before dawn to the scene described above, with beautiful thoughts such as those you've shared with us - is to experience life itself unveiled.

How precious! Enjoy the day, Kristi.

And thank you for giving us a glimpse of the joy to be found...if we view the world & all its contents not just with our eyes, but also with our hearts.

Best Wishes,
