I don't know if this will help but here is the VA Y2K website and the RX2000 site with a link to the listserve Archive they operate. I would recommend subscribing to the list serve as it is quite active and very informitive. They will help you with the question and tell you about tests that they have done.

Good luck, need you have your work cut out for you

Need, yes this is nationwide at all 171 or 172 hospital (lost count with all the intergrations). Anyway all VA's will be doing this for at least 8hrs. (must prove due diligence if y2k is more than a bump and the attorneys start hovering). All VA's must establish a Command Center 72 hours prior to the rollover and stay operational until Jan 10, 2000. Try to request leave Dec. 29 and on..and it will probably be disapproved. All services within each hospital must have a contingency plan (usally an attachment to the Emergency Preparednes Plan. And of course the facility itself will have a contingecy plan. The drill will test the generators and ea. services plan as well as identify any opportunities for improvement. Patients will not be at risk. Hope this helps. Let us know how the drill goes.

Just visited with my dr.at the V.A. yesterday, and discussed y2k with her and gave her some info on the problem. I inquired about getting 6 months of extra meds, to my surprise she indicated that she will do something creative with getting me an extended vacation supply to make sure I have an adequate supply thru the y2k transistion period. She is a G.I. but has encountered stiff opposition from higher ups when she had discussed doing this for all her Patients. The Good Dr.s are doing there best to work around the system. To all veterans that are tring to prepare. Inform your Dr. before august that you would like and extended vacation supply of meds, this is the only legal loophole the dr.s have to work with that will let them get around the systems 90day supply restrictions.

Need, I'm not sure when the local hospitals are testing. I do know that within this area there are 30+ hospitals and they have a y2k coordinator for the group. So VA is working with the community. y2kMike..glad to know that your dr. is a GI...there are quite a few GI but it's almost like coming out of the closet...VA pharmacies are aware of veterans wanting extra meds and it is being addressed at the national level.
