Seed Source needed badly

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I am looking for Aztec Red kidney bean seeds. Didn't order enough, and can't locate any now, unfortunately. Must be Non-Hybrid. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Gotta get it in the ground ASAP.

A terrific source of REASONABLY priced non-hybrid seed that won't cost you a small fortune is Redwood City Seed Co. They have been in business since 1971. They even have coffee and tobacco seed http://www.batnet.com/rwc-seed/#anchor44 Didn't see , but they do have BEAN Frijol Rojo and BEAN Black Mexican

Hey Bill--

Just got my victory garden collection today. I searched locally for a reputable source for non-hybrid seeds and was pleased to find a great source near by.

I didn't receive Aztec kidney beans, but I looked in the catalog and found "Montcalm" 105 day bean. Descriptive words Unsurpassed eating quality : non-sprawling; very productive;

Cannellini 85 day bean Desc.words: Italy's best dry bean: rich; meaty; small white; authentic minestrone; bush

If you would like further info email me and I'll get the info to you for you review.

Bill:

The vast majority of beans for shelling or drying are non-hybrid. The source I have used for years is Vermont Bean Seed Company. Always get good germination and the product more closely resembles the description. Best wishes.

Hi Bill (and you other bean people!), please see today's post re GardenWeb. Even if you've found your beans, you'll like the site.

Thanks for the suggestions. All of the companies I checked didn't have them, except for Vermont Bean Seed co (have to call them).

Excerpt from Millinnium Computer Bug fact or fiction?

.....increasing numbers of people are turning to us for help in being prepared. Many of you will remember last year when John Hopkins School of Medicine announced that sprouted broccoli see contained high amounts of the cancer fighting compound, Sulforaphane. Well, that announcement set off a frenzy for open-pollinated brocolli seed, and within 48 hours the worlds supply of broccoli seed was sold. - end snip

snip- And if the Y2K doesn't happen, you'll have discovered the reason so many people grow their gardens without the dreaded Y2K threat - end snip

In the Northwest you can contact Territorial Seed Co. Cottage Grove, Or.

Bill:

I checked my Vermont B&S catalogue. They no longer list that variety. I saw them this year but I don't remember where. I get so many catalogues [maybe 40 different suppliers]. If I get time I will look for you and repost.
