Sigma 24mm

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hello, I really like the 24mm prespective so I am considering buying this lens, because it is half the price of the canon. My problem is the stores in my area don't carry this lens(they say the zooms are more popular). My question is has anyone used this lens with an Elan IIE, and was it compatable? Thank you very much.

Definitely compatible. When you purchase the Sigma lens, you have a choice for either Canon, Nikon, Pentax, or Sigma mount right? Check out Cleeo Wright's amazing photos at www.photocritique.net (click on Nature) with the Elan II - Sigma 24/2.8 combination. Try it with some Fuji Velvia or Kodak E100SW, like he does. You don't need to limit yourself to stores in your area, do you? Any mail-order shop like Camera World of Oregon, B&H, or Adorama would be happy to ship it to you. Cheers.

Yes, the Sigma 24/2.8 is a good lens if you can't afford the Nikon version, but I found the Sigma did show a significant loss of definition at the edges and the not so edges.

With my sample of the sigma 24mm (the superwide II, the newest af version), the included "perfect hood" was so incredibly badly made that it vignetted whenever it was on...I realize this is not what you are asking....but if the equipment that c ome with the lens is not compatible, then I cannot recommed ANY lens...just a thought
