Black & white printing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

Now i am trying to scan some photos which are in B&W, however after I scan it and print it out from a Kodas Printer( 8670PS Thermal Printer), they all come out in grayscale instead of balck & white. Why? And any software or method can make it more similar to its original color?

thank you.

It's difficult to be specific without seeing the prints, and knowing what you are aiming at. There are many photo-manipulation programs that can probably do what you want, including equalising histograms (which ensure you have a full range from black to white), increasing contrast (which reduces the amount of grey, increasing the amount of black and white), and altering the gamma level (which makes the mid- greys lighter or darker).

Alan Gibson,

Thank you.

Kit, I looked at your post today at work and came back to respond when I got home. We really need more answers to questions. Are you scanning the photos as greyscale? I would assume that you are scanning them as RGB. Are you using a three color ribbon or a four color ribbon. When I first started using the Kodak Dye Sub printers I was outputting everything all wrong because I was used to an inkjet printer. What software program are you using. I use photoshop 5 for all of my outputs, but that really shouldn't make any difference in printing quality.

Don't know when you will see this but e-mail me at the above or fred.deaton@msfc.nasa.gov--this should be a simple problem to solve.
