Internet distance learning schools

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Exchange: A Forum for Antiques and The Arts : One Thread

I am a neophyte to the antique business and have always wanted to learn more but now is not the time or place in my life to take time out and attend classes and become officially certified. I would like to take some basic courses via the internet. I have contacted the ASA organization and they gave me several recommendations. The Regis Denver, Colorado school seems like a very thorough program but I don't need a formal degree because I already have a bachelors and part of my Masters plus a certificate in Fashion Design. What I need now is a to be able to study the field via the internet and/or mail-order to see if it is what I really want. I have always loved antiques but could never identify the true value of an item... I have always gone by what I found appealing. I would appreciate your opinion of a school that I found via the net .... by the name of Asheford Institute of Antiques... out of Florida. They promise to teach you the basics via mail order (which is a draw back because I would prefer it be via the internet) which is definitely what I need at this point. Would appreciate an opinion back as to what your know or have heard about this institution. ALSO IF YOU KNOW OF ANOTHER SCHOOL THAT CAN BE DONE OVER THE INTERNET THAT WILL TEACH ME THE BASICS .... PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Sincerely, Mige Davey Route 1, Box 366 ST. Paul, Virginia 24283 540-495-8645 Email.... mige@naxs.com

Call, visit or surf the net to your nearest library and ask for a book entitled "The Electronic University: a guide to distance learning." This is a Peterson Guide so it is a respected work. Many libraries are have their library catalog online so anyone can surf on in and look at their collection. Most of the time there is also the possibility of e-mailing the librarian. Try it!
