FRED Canon: List of must-read science fictiongreenspun.com : LUSENET : VCon SF convention : One Thread |
Today (technically, yesterday, which was Friday) at FRED some of us ended-up discussing and debating a list of novels that would make-up the core canon of SF.My "top three" list, in no particular order:
- Dune by Frank Herbert
- Neuromancer by William Gibson
- Schismatrix by Bruce Sterling
-- Thomas M. Terashima (tom@nucleus.com), May 01, 1999
Three by Heinlein, in no particular order:
- Time Enough for Love
- Friday
- Expanded Universe (not a novel, but contains a novella)
-- Thomas M. Terashima (root@fullahead.to), May 07, 1999.
As much as it may surprise some, the following are classics that I've actually read and consider true classics:
- The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester
- The Space Merchants by Frederik Pohl and C.M. Kornbluth
- Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
