Hotel/motel for Gotham Cup?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ajax USA: July Tour : One Thread

Anybody want to suggest an appropriate hotel/motel for the Gotham Cup? If there's enough interest, I'm sure we could go for a group rate.

My dad made reservations at the Sheraton Meadowlands, a while back (early April). Rate seemed not too bad, at just $109 for a double. (Our mail to you with orders for tix just went out today!)

Hi. I am coming up from the Philadelphia area on Thursday July 22 and will be staying till the July 25.Is the meadowlands Sheraton the place to be?

I found the Sheraton to be pricing at $129.00 to $159.00 a nite. The Marriott at Glenpoint in Teaneck, NJ (about 10 mins from Meadowlands) is going for $92.00 to $129.00 per nite.

Just doing some simple searches on some of the "cheap fare finders" sites, I am finding that it might be cheaper to fly into LaGuardia (LGA) than Newark (EWR). The distance to most hotels around Meadowlands is about the same from either.

Actually, Newark International Airport is much closer to Meadowlands than La Guardia. From La Guardia, you have to travel over several highways and two bridges through New York City traffic (bad at any time of the day or night, I know as I was a courier in the NY/NJ area for 2+ years!)to get to the stadium. By public transportation, you would have to take at least two busses or some combination of subway/ bus to get to NJ. A taxi would probably cost almost as much as the airfare!

Newark Int'l is just about 10 miles south of Giants Stadium and is a simple(for NJ) drive up the NJ Turnpike. So unless the airfare is way cheaper to La Guardia, I would strongly suggest flying into Newark if at all possible.

Hi. I just booked four nights at the Meadowlands Sheraton(July 22-25).I was able to get room with two double beds at $129.00 the first night aqnd $89.00 the next three. Rooms with refrigerators are extra.

The hotel is with in walking distance to Giants Stadium. It has the heated pool, health club, and game room.

I reserved a double at the Sheraton Meadowlands for $100+tax for 3 nights. Are there any non-smokers interested in sharing this room?

There doesn't seem to be enough organized interest to merit a group discount at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel. However, this is probably still the best place to stay for the Gotham Cup. Please make your own accommodation arrangements by calling (201) 896-0500.

Ajax USA members have been able to book rooms at this hotel for between $109 and $159.00 a nite. As an alternative, another Ajacied has written to say that the The Marriott at Glenpoint in Teaneck, NJ (about 10 mins from Meadowlands) is going for $92.00 to $129.00 per nite.

Sheraton or Marriott -- both nice places. But methinks a post-game party might spontaneously erupt at the Sheraton. Possible?

Radisson All Suite Hotel at the Meadowlands has rooms(suite) for $95 a night if you make a reservation online! This is good for up to four people!

Hey, has anyone found a cheap place to stay that might not be THAT close to the city? I can deal with driving 30-45 mins and paying like $50 a night. Thanks for your help. Or hey, if anyone lives near the stadium and wants to make some money for letting me and possibly one friend crash a few nights, let me know.

Thanks, Rick
