Y2k remediation tradeoff? Banishing bugs may make hacking easier?

I wondered about this when I read the article about U.K. firms "dumping data" to get around mainframe problems, thus allowing easier access to info via desktop.

BTW, anybody here remember the thread written by the y2k remediation team member who left--in part--because his company was bringing in p0eople from overseas who could barely speak English, and (so he thought) knew very little about computers?

Posted awhile back (sometime since November of last year).
