Baby/children's things..made in China...educational toys, shoes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Those of you with small children, or grandchildren, especially first children, take note of how many educational toys, baby clothes, shoes, etc., etc. are made abroad, especially in China. I just went thru my grandson's toychest, and only the books were not made in China. All the trusted major toy companies import from China. So if you have a growing youngster, particularly a first baby with no hand me downs to count on (literally!) you might want to anticipate the growth period for next year, or at least the next 6 months, by buying those educational toys ahead of time.

Likewise baby shoes...my daughter will be getting one pair of each size.

Likewise most any item in Walmart, Payless, etc....all made in China. Check it out sometime soon.

Got safety pins?

Hi Mary,

That's not all that's made in China. Lots of clothes, computer parts, tools, electronics, China diesel generators, etc.

Because of China's dire financial straits, for the next few months those products will be lower priced than we've seen recently. But if there are shipping problems after 1/1/00, they'll become unavailable.

Hey ! What happened to the Walmart made in America advertising? Another one hits the dust.

Now might be a nice time to purchase some woodworking books along with sandpaper and plywood to make toys that will be of better quality that the garbage that gets shipped over here from China. My kids stomp all over the plastic stuff, making much of it (except the heavy Little Tykes toys and Step 1) defunct after a few months anyway, but if Dad makes a toy from wood, it lasts.
