AT&T and Bell South completed their testing.

"The tests -- the most exhaustive test yet between the No. 1 U.S. long distance company and a regional Baby Bell -- covered call transfers between the network operated by Atlanta-based BellSouth, primarily a local carrier in its nine-state southeastern region, with AT&T's long-haul network. The tests had a 100 percent success rate, the companies said."

Sorry about the long URL.

My daughter received a call today from AT&T. Thet told her that they would like for her to come back to AT&T. She informed them that she had never changed and AT&T was her carrier at present. The man then said he needed to upgrade her records and would she answer some questions. Daughter said no and went on to ask why they needed to upgrade and asked if it was related to Y2k. He told her it was a computer problem and they lost some data.

This is probably NOT related, but on April 16th I cancelled my cell phone arrangement with GTE. I was not supposed to get another bill. I did. On Friday, April 23, when I called to correct this, I was told the billing and account computers were down. I called several times, they were down for at least two hours. Jokingly, I remarked to one representative, "You should not be doing your y2k testing on Friday night." He replied, "Yeah, I know."

I don't really think he was affirming that it was a y2k test that bombed the computers, I think he was just being pleasant. But now.....I wonder.

Hi Flint how is it going? I took a long vacation to Colorado and purchased a < acre lot in Grand Junction. If everything holds up I plan to build a nice 3000 sq. ft house on the lot. This is sort of a plan A and plan B would be to escape to the mountain. I am pretty sure I have a buyer for my house so the next step is to change jobs. If everything goes well I will be leaving in June for Colorado. If you would like to get in touch with me my email address is taylort2@nevada.edu take care. Tman

Howdy Flint,

This does seem to be good news, unlike the in-lab testing we were reading about a couple of weeks ago. The one thing that bothers me is the following:

"New York-based AT&T will not conduct tests with other Baby Bells due to the similarity in design and equipment of each company formed by the 1984 breakup of the Bell System, an AT&T spokesman said."

I hope they don't run into the same kind of problems that the FAA has, "changes made by local technicians." Time will tell I guess. <:)=
