who wrote We are the music makers And we are the dreamers of dreams Wandering by lone sea breakers And sitting by desolate streams World losers and world forsakers On whom the pale moon gleams Yet we are the movers and shakers Of the world forever it seems. I had been told that it was O Saugnecy?

I wish I knew as I have known a few 'desolate streams' - that have passed me by; and a poet told me when I was young and more foolish, "learn to lose, learn to lose."

It may have been Chehkov, but I'm not sure, perhaps "The Kiss"

'We are the music-makers' etc. is by the Irish poet Arthur O'Shaughnessy (1844-1881). It is the first verse of his 'Ode'. You can find the whole poem in a number of older anthologies such as A Golden Treasury of Irish Verse,Ed.Lennox Robinson,Macmillan and Co.Ltd. London, 1925.
