y2k, Tax Day, and WHY I prepare...your thoughts?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Is your post office jammed? Will your news tonight feature harried folk getting to the post office at the last minute, tax forms in hand? Don't we see this every year?

I'm not a techie. I read the doomers and I read the pollys, and to tell you the truth, I dunno who to believe any more. But I do know one thing:

At some point later this year...November? December? the sheeple are going to go nuts. They are going to do the same thing they do on the eve of a big hurricane...or Tax Day...term papers.. test cramming..They are going to wait until the last possible minute to prepare. That's just human nature. ( I'm guilty, I waited until the 14th to finish my taxes...)

BUT....with the average supermarket only carrying 2.5 days of groceries on the shelf, and with no more warehouse in the back, but a 15 day supply on the trucks on the road.....our supermarkets are going to be real madhouses, if not dangerous places to be, in certain cities.

So for me, it is not the actual size of the bump in the road...I am now totally confused about that.....it is the pre-bump idiots that worry me.

Post Thanksgiving....I say. We'll be giving each other canned goods for Christmas.;

Mary: I started a thread this morning called "I'll do it Later" which is related to your question. You may want to take a look since there are some parallels, including 'human nature'. Here is the link:

Hummm... Read Everything Before Posting Anything!

I see now that there are similar thoughts on two other posts below...also Tax Day inspired! Great minds....run in the same circles? nah.....

This happens a lot. Anytime there is something of interest happening, there are at least three similar threads going. I think back to when 60 minutes ran a Y2K story - really big news, around Thanksgiving last year - and I think there were about 7 threads all going at the same time! I was up until 3 a.m. just trying to keep up!

Actually you just reminded me to start the newbie thread - i have been remiss lately. Thanks, Rob.
