Dark room exposure meter

I recently bought a Unicolor Darkroom exposure meter in a Camera flea market. It did not come with an instruction sheet. The meter has markings from .5 to 5.5 with another dial for time in seconds ranging from 2 sec to 240 seconds. It is battery operated with a sensor I imagine where you would place it on the important area in the projected image on the baseboard. If someone has used this Darkroom exposure meter , I would appreciate some insight. Can you determine the contrast by measuring the highlight and shadow reading ? and how do you determine the time ? What is the .5 to 5.5 scale reading ? Thanks
