You don't have to stay up all night --

Every Art Bell program is archived in RealAudio format -- see archive.

Summaries of recent programs can be found here -- summaries.

Starts RIGHT NOW -- 22:00 Pacific time. Besides the archives, I believe if you go to the web site (www.artbell.com) you can listen on your computer in real time. (I haven't done that, mayself, but have heard callers into the program refer to that.)

Caught part of it. Karen said that Michael Hyatt said that the recent Washington and media spin has had a real impact on squelching the numbers attending the Y2K expos.

Generally a good show: good report, and good analysis form her perspective.

She has a web site - which concentrates on, as she puts it, " a women's perspective w/r year 2000" rather than techno functions - also she emphasizes apartment and low-impact/low cost preps rather than more elaborate longer preparations, but I couldn't catch its id while driving home. T'was late night.

Although I did find useful information on Karen's site, I am struck with some of the queries from and responses to women. Many of the questions seemed like Private Benjamin does y2k. Are women really that cloistered and shallow? Does it matter if your sack of beans is in a pail that is upholstered to match your decore? Are we too delicate to bother our cute little heads with world events and decisions? Do we, indeed, "shut down" when confronted with the potential implications of y2k? Have we lost the backbone of the frontier woman with the grit to tackle stark realities. (I am reminded of "Westward the Women" or the changes that occurred during WWII with women having to fend for themselves.) Get a grip gals. Our foremothers were the strength of the family in war and times of great change. You CAN do it. Stop whining.

"Do we, indeed, "shut down" when confronted with the potential implications of y2k?"

That angle was irritating, simply because in my experience, it's the men who shut down in response to this issue.
