We bought 2 three hundred gallon fuel tanks today and....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

had to call three different companies in order to find any. These are not your normal every day purchases and are expensive. I would have thought it might be one on the last items on a Y2k preparation list. I can not see these type of tanks sitting in the back yard in of a subdivision.

The third business said that he could not keep them that they were "selling like hotcakes". We did not ask if it was becasue of Y2k.

I got lucky - found a 500 gal used tank for $100. Luckier still, I have an explosion proof motor with pump and hose layin around here (use with a 10kw generator)

500 gal should keep us going for a while. My luck, the damn electric will stay on forever.

ask and you shall find. good luck to you Linda

I hope it stays on forever!

Part of the problem is that last December (believe the 22nd) the EPA deadline under the CWA prohibiting underground tanks went into effect. Lots of people bought (or are on list for buying) replacement above ground tanks. It is a $5m per day fine if you are caught with an underground one now and fuelers cannot refuel them by law.

that ruling applies only to over 450 gallons. We have 500 gallon tanks and all we had to do to come into compliance is to stencil on the tank, do not fill over 450 gallons.
