April 15 in just a couple of days and I'm still vacilating between filing. Any opinions out there?

Income tax is a voluntary compliance tax....

I filed electronically about a month ago. Got my return back from the state (Alabama) in 4 days, and from the federals in a week.

Near as I can make out, they are ready in collections, but behind in software and hardware for audits.

If you file and make only a part payment, when you finally pay the full amount you will also have to pay fines and interest. However if you do not file and decide a year later to file, NO FINES AND NO INTEREST!!!!

I have a friend who did not file for 6 years and he got tired of them putting on the pressure and finally did back filings for those 6 years. He was not assessed any fines or interest!

Enter the name of Joe Banister in your search engines. He is an IRS Agent who about 2 months ago resigned from the IRS. He has a most interesting story to tell! He will reveal some amazing facts about the IRS, that most people do not know about. It is well worth doing the search. Happy reading!

I have just finished up my part of our Income Tax, and it's ready to go to the accountant, who we will pay a big fee to finalize. April is one of my favorite months of the year and yet it is partially ruined, from my point of view, by having to deal with this paper inquisition, just for the priviledge of paying the IRS.

This year it was especially nasty as a big multi-million school bond was presented to the already over taxed public. Luckily it was defeated by a narrow margin. But the people promoting our contry club school, like specters from Halloween II said, "We'll be back. See you next April." If there is one good thing I'm looking forward to about Y2K, it's schools having to cut the frills and get back to the business of learning, and the IRS falling into a heap of mal-functioning rubble.

Gilda, don't you live in Florida? Where there is NO income tax? Only a 6% sales tax? Average property taxes? A low gas tax? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WHINING ABOUT HIGH TAXES FOR????? It's assholes like you that keep Florida schools among the worst in the country by voting down money to get the kids out of portable (ie: trailers) classrooms. You more then likely moved here to take advantage of the weather and low taxes, and now you whine? Why don't you go back to where ever you came from, we don't need you here, we're sick of you greedy assholes.

-- sick of Gilda (florida@usa..), April 10, 1999.

No STATE income tax.

Decorum please evergladers,

next year, if there is a semblance of government - Flat Tax - mark my woids...

Why don't you get a few facts before you shoot off your big mouths. First, I DO NOT live in Florida, have never lived in Florida, don't want to live in Florida. Got it!! After reading your delusional post that I have caused your children to be condemned to trailers, I hope I never set foot in Florida. No I will not move to your state for the good weather and low taxes. I hate heat. I like winter.

Now, you brilliant crocodiles, who branded me as a Floridian, let me strain your sun fried brains with a few facts. First Fact: I live in the Midwest. Got it? I repeat, the Midwest. Second, we have a State Income Tax. Got That? We have a sales tax of 7.225%. GOT IT? or should I repeat that? We do not have children in trailers and never have had children in trailers. Got It?

We DO have the country club of schools. We have state of the art everything pertaining to sports. We have a greenhouse. We have a threater that is a miniature of the Met That's in NY. Got it? We have every kind of self-improvement program, sports program, dramatic program and crafts program you can imagine, and I've only touched the surface. We run activity buses for every school event so our children's parents aren't burdened with being chauffeurs, and every child can participate in any and every activity in the school.

We live in a tourist area where the fat cats from the cities have migrated and built mansions and gated communities, so they won't be forced to mingle with the locals. This has driven property taxes sky high, and we who have always lived here and do not live in mansions, are taxed to death. One of the items to be included in this latest tax raise was a new tennis court.

Until you understand another person's situation, I don't think you have the right to assume that they are an interloper into your state, looking for good weather, a free ride and a chance to hold back your children from a decent education. I am a firm believer education.

It is a verifiable fact that we spend more on education than any other country in the world, yet we are below many of them in academic achievement.

Also, check out Otto Skinner's site -- briefy, only two types of taxes allowed by the Constitution and the "income" tax ain't one of them. You, as an average person, are likely not engaged in a "revenue taxable activity" and as such are not subject to and liable for an "income" tax.
