I rescently bought a Canon XL1 MiniDV camcorder which is supposed to be able to use Eos lenses via a $1000 adaptor. Has anyone any direct experience with this?

Michael:

I use XL-1s in video production work, and when shooting Nature Videos have used the EOS adapter and lenses quite often.

My results have been OUTSTANDING!!! The lenses work well on the XL-1. I have used a number of different lenses including the 70-200mm, 300mm f2.8, 400mm f2.8, and 600mm f4. They have all rendered exceptionaly sharp, bright images. In my opinion much of the footage is sharper and brighter than footage shot with the standard XL-1 lens.

The adapter is expensive, but if you shop around you can find it for about $600.

By the way, you can also use extenders and extention tubes with this adapter. It makes for a very versatile set-up.

Hope this helps. If you have more questions please feel free to e- mail me.
