Another ramp up sighting(more water barrels)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The Albertsons grocery store in the town adjacent to mine has started stocking 55 gallon water barrels for the paltry sum of $40.00. I would think they wanted to cash in on the crazys as well as Smiths. What say you Mr Dixon??I love people stocking up on things which may be "needful".

The more the food suppliers get with the program the happier I am. It's good being a southern baptist in mormon country. They do their thing and I follow.

And at my neighborhood Sam's Club they are going for $21. (That's in the old Lohman's Plaza in Richmond Heights, across from the Hospital, for all you NEOHIO folks).

Hey Nine, sounds like you might live in the "land of laughable beer" too! It took almost ten years of living here before I felt mostly at home

The supermarket signs of catering to "paranoid crazies" that Ive noticed in my area so far:

Acres 55-gal water barrels

Harmons 5-gal buckets w/lids, frequent caselot sales of bleach, toilet paper, etc.

Stop and Shop more 5-gal buckets, 25-lb bags of wheat, and cases of 2-lb propane bottles.

Maceys the aforementioned "Food Storage Super Sale" (note: closed on Sundays)

(I dont go to Smiths much anymore since they instituted their "Fresh Values" card system.)

Well, I live in the heart of the heart of Mormon country, south of Provo. When we had new cabinets installed in out home, they were made by and installed by a polygamist group. In the local high school, I bet 99% of the girls are virgins when they graduate, and 95% of the kids have never tasted alcohol. I bet at least 1/3 of the graduating boys go on mormon missions for 2 years. I think it is a great place to live as a non-mormon.

Sincerely, Apple

Apple- "I think it is a great place to live as a non-mormon." Maybe for a non-beer-loving non-mormon... (hey, we all need a hobby :)

Perhaps I should explain: I moved here from Western Oregon-- you know, seacoast, rivers, trees and greenery everywhere. Utah was a big change. My first (and only) attempt at a garden here raised only rocks.

I was just a teensy bit put-out that some of my kids' friends from school weren't allowed to come over and play because we "weren't LDS". (gotta stay away from those people, they're "gentiles" y'know!)

But now my kids are grown, and all in all, I've gotten used to the place.

99% of the HS girls are virgins? bwahahahahahahahahahaha! (wanna buy a bridge?)
