"new" Tokina AF 28-105mm f3.5-4.5

How does this lens compare to the other independent manufacturers' lenses of the same focal length and speed? How does it compare to Minolta's?

I can't say that it's a great lens, but very handy for travel when you don't want to haul prime lenses around. However, it's major nuisance factor is barrel drift when pointed up or down. Drives me crazy! I am seriously thinking of selling it for a Minolta zoom. Although I will check it for barrel drift before I buy.

Disregard previous comment. Just noticed you asked about AF lens. My experience is with MD lens.
