LA Times: "Seeking Y2K Getaway, Some Head for the Hills, in Ozarks"

Just came across this at the LA Times site:

Seeking Y2K Getaway, Some Head for the Hills, in Ozarks

Here's a fun excerpt:

In Madison County, locals buzz about the arrival of a Microsoft Corp. executive. Like many newcomers to the area, the man, who bought 155 acres of creek-fed land, expressed irritation at media prying.

"The press is crucifying everyone who is preparing for Y2K, and I'm not prepared to be crucified. Sorry," he said, before hanging up the phone. But computer consultant Haag was happy to talk. Though he's religious, his concerns are strictly technological, and he doesn't expect society to unravel. But he began to take Y2K seriously after his own research, which included the work of Y2K pundit Gary North.

The Arkansas-based North, who declines interviews, has prompted much of the Y2K influx to the region. Presiding over a vast Internet system, North is a religious "reconstructionist" who thinks society must collapse before Jesus Christ returns.

So one of the Bellevue Bullies is putting together a "Plan B" (or perhaps it's "Plan C", who knows?). Obviously someone who knows nothing about computers or the power of the free market. 8-}]

Love that last item re Gary North: He "declines interviews" and is "presiding over a vast Internet system..."

LOL!!! He certainly declines interviews from completely clueless members of the news media who refuse to write anything but what they decide is "The Story". Who wouldn't?

Even more laughable is the image of Dr. North "presiding over"... what? A well-organized Website? Some books for sale? An occasional mass e-mailing? A few interviews with Art Bell? "Ooooo, scary, keeds, very scary. It's a vast Internet system and he's the president! AND he's religious! Oooooo!"

A most entertaining article, I must say, and healthy, to boot. Laughter is quite aerobic...

Gary North may not be the most popular person around here, but you must admit that he has done a lot to help a large number of people become GIs.

Gary North is a religous wacko. He may be a nice guy, and he may have enlightened hundreds, if not thousands of lives, which I do sincerely appreciate. Gary was the person who I first heard on Art Bell.

After learning of his deeply disturbing religous agenda, I've empowered myself to seek out Y2k information elsewhere rather then relying on what he feels is best for his own dark religious path which leads nowhere close to harmony, and peace but rather death and destruction. There's enough death in the world today, without sCaRy GaRy so the more of us aware of his "reconstructionist theory," the better we are to avoid Gary North like the plague meister that he truly
