Interior paint colors used in Art Deco homes.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Art Deco Society of Washington : One Thread

I just purchased an Art Deco Home and would like to know what color schemes were used to paint their interiors.

Thank you Brigitte

I'm by no means an expert..but I do recall several shows from "the furniture refinishing guys" (PBS-) where they discussed art deco paint schemes and furniture colors. Also you might contact "American Movie Classics" site for references on room decoration in films 30s thru 50's. Hope these sources help....

My grandfather was a painter, according to him most Art Deco rooms either used wainscoating w/ or w/out wallpaper, wood panneling (with geometric designs inset), or velvet wall "paper".

You should check with a Sherwin Williams dealer and ask to see a pamphlet of interior colors called "Preservation Palette." This includes a set of "Jazz Age" and "Streamlined Era" color selections.

Good luck!

I am getting ready to fully restore an art deco hotel that was built in 1929. When it comes to interior colors they liked them soft yet bold. I am finding the usage of heavy and deep reds, goldenrod, creams, gold, seafoam green and of course the old French Gray. I am excited to be starting this wonderful restoration. I hope your projrct all come out well.

I am also looking for colors apporiate in an art deco style for my bedroom. I found the following site from Glidden that has been very useful to me. I hope you find inspiration here.
