---just got this in mail, good idea, pass it around:

THE GREAT AMERICAN "GAS OUT" It's time we did something about the price of gasoline in America! We are all sick and tired of high prices when there are literally millions of gallons in storage. Know what I found out? If there was just ONE day when no one purchased any gasoline, prices would drop drastically. The so-called oil cartel has decided to slow production by some 2 million barrels per day to drive up the price. I have decided to see how many Americans we can get to NOT BUY ANY GASOLINE on one particular day! Let's have a GAS OUT! Do not buy any gasoline on APRIL 30, 1999!!!!! Buy on Thursday before, or Saturday after. Do not buy any gasoline on FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1999. Wanna help? Send this message to everyone you know. Ask them to do the same. All we need is a few million to participate in order to make a difference.

If you think it is worth a try, please pass the message on.

If nobody bought gas on friday... Thursday sales and Saturday sales would be excellent, possibly spurring an increase in price on Friday and Saturday due to the demand and supply issue. The price would only drop if stiff competition warranted it. On the other hand, if the embargo lasted long enough, allocation would dwindle to the point where we would have to charge a hefty price to maintain operating margins. The public vastly overestimates the petroleum marketer's control of the street price of gasoline. Market forces are the driving factor behind street prices.

Are you kidding? A boycott would only drive prices higher. The oil corporations don't care whether 10 million people buy gas for $1 a gallon, or 1 person buys gas for $10 million per gallon, as long as they can meet or exceed the earnings expected by the stockholders.

They've been spending a lot of money to fix Y2K and we are going to pay for it.

First, they merge to reduce costs, then they layoff thousands to save more money, and then they reduce the supply of oil, allowing them to raise prices and increases profits.

Hell, they even paid off the Pentagon to "accidentally" hit Iraqi pipelines and cut the supply of oil:

Gas is cheaper than bottled water, what's the deal? It seems pretty cheap to me.

Deborah, that's exactly what I was thinking. My friends in England were paying over $2.00 per gallon when I was last there.

I said, "That's awful." They laughed and said, "You Americans are spoiled."

We are spoiled. When I see those refugees struggling across the border, with everything they own on their backs, I try to remember to quit my bitchin'.

We have the cheapest gasoline in the world. Quit whining.
