I like the lush out of focus background and the sharp foreground branches. But the bird, especially the white breast and throat, seems a bit zapped. Noticing that you are already at -1.7, perhaps its a problem with the slide to digital conversion process.

Peter,

I find the background too busy as well as the foreground branches. They dominate the picture. The yellow spot above it's head is also distracting. The birds head in particular does not seem well distinguished from the background, especially near the beak. I also think that a verical format may have been better. Infact, cropping it to a vertical format does improve it IMO.

i think it's a good shot- the bird stands out fine, and i do not think the background is distracting. also, i think the branches the bird is standing on are a crucial element- they not only provide a balanced roost for the bird and good foreground- they also provide a very nice contrast to the beautiful green background. it's odd that the branches are exposed well but the body and throat seem overexposed, or at least lacking in detail. i ahve seen several of your photos with this lens and they always seem to have a really nice, soft, out of focus background- isn't that what is known as good bokeh?
