How much better is 38+p than 38special?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Checked out Wallmart and price more than double for 38+p. Is it that much better. Going to be used in Colt with 4 inch barrel.

Answers

short answer: no.

slightly longer answer: +P is better than regular .38 special, but not enough to cut your ammo supply in half in order to get it. and if it's a .38 you're going to have to place your shots accurately anyway, +P or no +P.

I agree with Arlin, also would add that many small frame revolvers will not hold up to plus-p loads. The Colt you have I'm guessing is a diamondback, it should do ok, but I have seen Smith and Wesson airweights and Rossi and Lama snubnoses lock up after only a few rounds of the hot stuff.

HELLO? 38? PLEASE!

357@better,

Amen,,even a full clip of 9 mil has been known not to do the job. If it won't pickem up and knockem down, what's the point? 357 mag w/hollow points or better

Perhaps they don't have your wrists. I have a little problem with .357 but the .40 S&W is a dream. Now, my bro-in-law considers .45-90 to be a nice pistol cartidge. HIS wrists are about the size of my lower thigh!

454s are fun to shoot,,if you don't mind 2 bucks a shot.

357s don't kick that hard,,I know little old ladys that shoot them.

Support Gun control,,, Use BOTH hands,,,

what's a 45/90?,,,sounds like fun.

While I am a pistol nut and the 44 is my favorite. When the situation arises I always grab the shotgun.

But If I'm just carry'en then it's always a compact 9.

The 38 is a very reasonable carry gun and the difference between the regular rounds and +p is negliglable. Save your money.

.45...

That is my caliber of choice. A shop here in town has 230 gr. FMJ for $10.00 a box. I bought a case.

With .38 special you will NEED twice the ammunition supply. That's why the cops not longer carry them as a primary, because of the lack of stopping power. Their backup piece might be a .38 though...
