I attended a seminar entitled "Wealth Protection 1999" held March 20, 1999 in Phoenix Arizona. I went more to hear the speakers and get away from the snow than to protect my "wealth". Two of the featured speakers were Richard Maybury and Jim Lord.

Richard is well known for his Early Warning Report newsletter that warns of war in Chaostan (basicly Asia, Middle East, former Soviet republics). He addressed the many problems there as well as his belief that China, Iraq, North Korea and other may have a loosely coordinated plan to make moves against adjacent territories in January 2000. He is also a Y2K GI.

The highlight was Jim Lord's presentation. It was much the same material he writes about at Westegaard, but with the revelation in one of his slides that he now believes there is a 100% probability of Martial Law being declared (I think he said late this year). He also stated he has the "ear" of a number of highly placed individuals due to recognition of his Y2K writings. He stated he gets minutes from "closed door" meetings, although not classified information.

When he made the Martial Law statement, the room of 250 people was dead silent.

Thanks Kevin. Jim Lord has been a relatively reasoned voice on y2k. Over the past couple of months he has become more concerned and unlike some of the others he seems to be moving towards a more negative stance on the outcome.

I heard Lord last year in Annapolis. His career was in DOD computers. I personally asked him if he thought there would be military attacks as a result of y2k. He laughed at the idea then. I wonder if he thinks that way now. By the way he recently moved from the Wash. D.C. burbs to St. George, Utah.

"Will there be a declaration of a national security emergency in the United States? Well, Congress has certainly sent an encouraging message and our neighbors to the north have been most forthcoming about their plans. I would say the chances are very high the same will be done here. I suspect that the "spooks" in the basement of the Pentagon are well along in their plans for a mobilization of our own troops in preparation for Y2K riots and disturbances."

It's pretty obvious that they really won't have much choice but to implement a condition of martial law, and it's been fairly evident since then that the government is definitely preparing for this.

We posted at the beginning of November 1998 that martial law would be put into effect in the USA in November of 1999. It is possible that, if all seems calm, no ruffles, it will be held off as long as possible to ensure a good Thanksgiving-Christmas shopping season (economy first). But it is hard to imagine everybody sleeping & apathetic by November, after the last week's events: who knows? Circumstances seem to be escalating, accelerating, and changing in directions discussed but not really believed. "Interesting times" ...

Oddly enough, St. George, Utah was square in the path of much of the fallout from above ground nuclear testing in Nevada. A considerably above normal incidence of cancer has been recorded there and in other areas of Utah similarly afflicted. I expect by now the radiation level is much reduced, but the long half-life isotopes remain. Even low level alpha and beta emitters can be quite troublesome internally when ingested as dust.

I wouldn't stop in St. George any longer than it takes to fill the gas tank, myself.

Jim Lord did not move to St. George, but to Hurricane, Utah, which is about 20 miles north east of St. George and about 10 miles west from one of the most beautiful parks in the USA. Zion National Park!

I would take St. George area over Cedar City. Cedar City is ugly with just cedar trees, but St. George, Hurricane area is fantastic. The guy that mentioned Cedar City, does not know what he is talking about!

i don't spend much time on discussion forums because it eats up so much time. I was specifically requested to make an input to this thread however so will make an exception.

Kevin is correct. For several months now I have indicated in my newsletter and in public speeches that I think a national security emergency (popularly referred to as "matial law") will be declared sometime later this year. I don't think it will be imposed nationwide, however but in localized areas only.

I have not indicated such in any Westergaard columns but have, as quoted, pointed out the possibility.

I hold this view for many reasons. Two of the more compelling in my judgment are 1) many state and local governments will not be ready in time and 2) the availability of water is very likely to be a severe problem in some highly populated areas. This combination could hardly yield any other result. I would expect the martial law to be in effect only in the areas affected and dont expect a nationwide event for many reasons.

Second point, you're all wrong. I live in a rural area twenty miles from Cedar City and thirty miles from St. George. Within sight of an interstate highway. Seventeen minutes from Wal Mart, a four year college and a hundred and seventy live performances of Shakespeare every year.

Last evening I counted thirty-three wild turkey and fifteen deer in the pasture behind my home.

Yeah, I headed for the hills but mainly because they're such a nice place to live.

Mr. Jim Lord, we saw you speak at the Seattle Y2K Expo, and Leska talked to you afterward. Just wanted to say you were an excellent speaker and had an exceptional ability to get Y2K explained clearly to your audience.

Washington & Oregon states have already "signed up" for martial law contingencies, and we have *too much* water, but still want it clean out of the tap and running to functioning treatment facilities.
The worry, aside from power out and civil unrest, is FIRES, SEWAGE BACKUP, & HAZMAT ACCIDENTS. Martial law is seen as a way to help keep "things in line" and facilitate multiple emergency responses. Nobody wants Y2K to come to this, but when realistically looking at the possibilities ... "better prepared than sorry."

Ditto to Ashton & Leska's comments. I was very impressed with your presentation in Seattle.

Deferring to your more extensive military knowledge, it also supports my research findings. We will have martial law in areas that need assistance ... for humanitarian reasons. Water shortages and oil/ chemical hazards are quite likely in numerous areas.

And there there's always the "unexpected."
