Hard Shell Tripod Case For Travel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I am looking for a hard shell tripod case for air travel. With new carry on travel restrictions, I figure I'm better off checking my tripod and head. In looking through the B & H catalogue, the only tripod case that I was able to identify as being hard shell with a padded interior was the Bogen 3285 (on p. 420). Any experience with this case, or another case along the same lines?

It is not a hardshell case but I very much like the Lightware tripod case. It has been across the country many times over about six-seven years and protects well. I can even use it as a tripod/stands/soft box/grip case when I am making editorial portraits with no assistant to help haul the larger cases around. I have the 40" version and it will easily hold a Gitzo 410 w/ an Arca B2 head and a Gitzo 320 w/ an Arca B1 head. not cheap but you do get what you pay for.
