Florida RR

I am looking for someone to contact that would know about the Florida RR (c.1860) Also, would anyone know about a website that would handle inquiries concerning people who worked for the railroad. For instance...Div. Master. Also, what is the CSX and FRA. Excuse me, but I know nothing about railroads and I am trying to look up my ggg-grandfathers relationship to the Florida RR and the kind of job he held. Thanks for anything you can do for me to put me on the right trail! Nora

Very interesting article about David Yulee. I couldn't get the link to work, but if you go to the Gainesville Sun home page and type David Yulee into the search box, the article will come up. Those in the area, please keep us posted on how these plans develop. If there is an opportunity for us to set up the company store at the June 04 event the article mentions, we'd be interested.

The accomplishments of the Florida Railroad's promoter, David Yulee, are to be recognized in an area-wide commemoration:

The Florida Railroad Company was incorporated January 8, 1853. Construction commenced in 1855 near Fernandina and completed to Cedar Key, FL, a total of 155 miles on March 1, 1861. The company entered receivership on October 3, 1866, and was sold at public auction in Gainesville, FL, on November 3, 1866. The company was not profitable during the reconstruction era and was reorganized as Atlantic, Gulf & West India Transit Company on January 18, 1872.

When the Chessie system RR and the Seaboard system RR merged they became CSX.

The FRA is the Federal Railroad Administration.
