NBC News: Y2K & Domino Effectgreenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
NBC Saturday Evening News - Succinct summary of the Domino Effect of Y2K, focussing on impact of international failures hitting the US economy. Tone much more serious than previous reports. Sound bite from Ed Yardeni about potential for very significant economic impact from Y2K; even though they misspelled both his last name and the name of his employer (who the heck handles error checking for these clowns?), the message came through fine. And the signoff from Soledad O'Brien was nothing like her previous "everything should be fine" efforts. Some of the folks at 30 Rock seem to be taking Y2K much more seriously...

Thinking that this could lead to a recession/depression might not be enough to get people to prepare. If I thought that was the worst possible outcome, I'm not sure if I would prepare as I am doing. However, others more farsighted than me would view it differently. I hope that it's enough to get people at least looking for info!

'Betcha NBC was flamed for that earlier report by Soledad O'Brian. I remember it well. In fact I commented that I had purses older than her, thus I was not surprised by its simplicity. I also commented that she's a lot prettier than I. . . :)As far as spell-checking supers (super-imposed titles), it used to be done by the guy/gal entering them in the control room, generally engineering types, versus journalists. 'Dont forget this report aired on a weekend. Had it been during a weekday, there might have been more checks and balances present, to avoid the mistake.
Saw parts of the report. Can anyone post a link?
Cheers!
