Granted that nobody knows for sure whether it will just a bump or the end of the World,I would have thought that it would have prudent for our "great leaders" to have warned their citizens,long before now exactly what was at stake ..thus minimising panic & freeing up resources come the millenium. I know this smacks of paternalism but surely it is a prime duty of government to protect their people.

Perhaps I missing something here but I cannot understand why this has not been done on an organised basis.Instead we are being fed a diet of optimistic & weasel words.

What is the motivation for this???????Power,cupidity or just stupidity?

If the SHTF, could this "lack of warning" be considered a crime against humanity or merely a gross dereliction of duty.

Just an idle speculation!

If its a 8-10 we shall all be too busy surviving to do anything about it,I guess !

Chris, I have argued this exact point in several threads. Congress should pass now a Y2K Crimes Against Humanity bill providing severe punishment for anyone in high government or corporate office who intentionally or recklessly minimizes the need to prepare for dislocation. Obviously, this will never happen. Maybe those State of Maine politicians could at least make a symbolic attempt.

Panic is the reason and the Feds aren't in place and ready to manage panic in the big cities. Never before have there been urban manuevers such as we have seen and have been hearing about the past couple of months. Why couldn't those manuevers (in Monterey, Alameda, Seattle, etc) have taken place on all the closed military bases? There's enough empty houses, barracks, buildings, etc., where these manuevers could have taken place. Why do you think they did it with the media's attention, and the citizens attention? Could it be intimidation? Those closed military bases will be put to good use. I posted this scenario well over a year ago on this BB and I was poo pooed, we shall see, and I still hold true to my theory.
